What baffoons to ask for this sort of information!
It's not just that it is a horrible invasion of privacy, but the worst thing is that it turns control of your own personal social networking pages over to someone else!
I mean, if you give out your username and password to your Facebook account, then whoever has that information can login and start making changes to your profile! Or sending messages to other people.
I just assume that a potential employer is going to review my Linkedin, Facebook, etc. page, but there's no way I would divulge login information -- I would probably just pretend that I didn't have any online presence, and if they found out, I'd just let the chips fall where they may.

On the city's (Bozeman, Mont.) Web site, a waiver statement for background and reference checks asks job applicants to release information about personal, professional and social networking Web sites, including log-in information and passwords.

I'm crossposting this from Solioqueer because it pissed me off.
The idiot formerly known as Tom Delay says that no one is denied health care in America.
What planet does he live on? Has he ever gone to the emergency room for himself or someone else without health insurance or with Medicaid? The hospital's first goal at that point is to provide you with just enough care to get you back out the door.
And without health insurance, most people suffer with their ailments until the ailment turns into an emergency.
I remember going late to join Matt at the hospital after the ambulance came the last time -- I had stayed home to lock up the apartment and make some calls after the ambulance took him. I remember being shocked to find him admitted into a room where the nursing staff had not provided ANY attention to him -- no water, nothing...just in a room by himself. I don't even know if anyone had even talked to him -- he was just lying there feeling lonely and miserable.
Once I got there, the nurses started making excuses about why the room wasn't prepped...
So, my personal example is of someone on Medicaid who DID get care -- for a life threatening illness -- but who I believe would not have gotten good care if it weren't for someone like me watching and asking questions.

DeLay claimed that, under the U.S. system, “no American is denied health care”:By the way, there’s no one denied health care in America. There are 47 million people who don’t have health insurance, but no American is denied health care in America. The audience, understandably, greeted DeLay’s preposterous claims with “derisive laughter,” according to the AP. A recent report showed that for the sixth straight year, jobholders continued to see a decline in employer-provided health insurance, with 38 states seeing “significant” drops in benefits offered by employers.

Moral of the story -- Don't jog with your iPod on in a lightning storm 'cause it will make it much worse if you get struck by lightning!

Oh, gimme a break...IBM should sue this guy for stupid lawsuits...I don't care that he is a Internet/sex addict...that's not (and should not be) covered by the Americans With Disabilities Act.
Now, if he sues because they improperly used his medical records, then that's a different story, but the Internet addiction? No way.

A man who was fired by IBM for visiting an adult chat room at work is suing the company for $5 million, claiming he is an Internet addict who deserves treatment and sympathy rather than dismissal.

Why do people get suckered in by these sorts?
In the rapturous eyes of his flock, Jose Luis de Jesus Miranda is, in fact, the second coming of Christ. As the head of the Growing in Grace International Ministry, he presides over a sprawling organization that includes more than 300 congregations in two dozen countries, from Argentina to Australia. He counts more than 100,000 followers and claims to reach millions more through a 24-hour TV channel, a radio show and several Web sites.
....
Two years ago at Growing in Grace's world convention in Venezuela, he declared himself Christ. And just last week, he called himself the Antichrist and revealed a "666" tattooed on his forearm.

I guess I shouldn't kick him while he's down, but I'm really glad to be rid of Allen...he was arrogant and fake and needed to be turned out.
I wrote a letter to him once or twice and the tone of the response was pretty much arrogant and insulting, basically "I'll do what I want, regardless of what your opinion is." Even if you disagree with someone, there's a way to be polite in the response, something that George Allen's staff obviously didn't understand.
Good riddance to bad rubbish.

I thought this only happened in commercials --

On a related note, I have gotten spoiled lately when I travel by getting Hertz' Neverlost navigation system on the rental cars...I really like it...I've taken to calling the system "Bessie." It's pretty cool that you don't need any maps.
Just put the address in, and Bessie will tell you where to turn -- "Right turn in ...pause... 1 mile." I find it particularly amusing when I miss a turn, and she says "Please make the first available, legal U-turn."
It's pretty expensive (an extra $9.95 per day), so I only get it when I'm on a 1 or 2 day trip.

The guy is a hothead as well as a moron...
At a debate in Tysons Corner yesterday between Republican Allen and Democrat Webb, WUSA-TV's Peggy Fox asked Allen, the tobacco-chewing, cowboy-boot-wearing son of a pro football coach, if his Tunisian-born mother has Jewish blood.
"It has been reported," said Fox, that "your grandfather Felix, whom you were given your middle name for, was Jewish. Could you please tell us whether your forebears include Jews and, if so, at which point Jewish identity might have ended?"
Allen recoiled as if he had been struck. His supporters in the audience booed and hissed. "To be getting into what religion my mother is, I don't think is relevant," Allen said, furiously. "Why is that relevant -- my religion, Jim's religion or the religious beliefs of anyone out there?"
"Honesty, that's all," questioner Fox answered, looking a bit frightened.
"Oh, that's just all? That's just all," the senator mocked, pressing his attack. He directed Fox to "ask questions about issues that really matter to people here in Virginia" and refrain from "making aspersions."
"Let's move on," proposed the moderator, George Stephanopoulos of ABC News.

File this under idiot...I am so embarrassed to have this guy as my senator, for so many reasons...
Calling somebody Macaca would be insulting even if it wasn't the name of a species of monkeys.
And, welcoming him to America? The guy was born in Fairfax County!
All you have to do is listen to somebody long enough, and you'll eventually hear them say what they really think. So, George Allen thinks that the proper name for someone who looks like they come from India is "Macaca." It shows the disrespect Allen has for other people.
I didn't realize the video had made it to YouTube until a friend told me -- http://youtube.com/watch?v=pL3Q9gUEvtA

That Richard Hatch seems like such a moron...he wins a lot of money in the Survivor TV series...and then he ends up in prison for tax evasion???
How stupid do you have to be to end up in that situation? Who doesn't know that they owe taxes on income?
