I was a little bored this afternoon, so I decided to walk around Hollywood Cemetery and take some pictures.

Lots of Angels

I think he may have lost his staff or sword or something -- his upraised hand looks like it should be holding something.

Children

There are also a fair number of children's graves. You see whole families buried together. Often the dates of death make you think it was some sort of epidemic that killed several children at once.

The dog at Hollywood Cemetery is pretty well known. It guards a child's grave.

And the child's grave seems to attract trinkets --

This didn't look like a grave marker to me, but maybe it was.

The frog also attracts trinkets. I think that is one of the Beetles?

River View

Hollywood has some of the best views of the James River. In this picture you can see the people on the other side at Pony Pasture, sunning themselves on the rocks. The water level in the James is very low -- the ongoing drought is really affecting the water levels and plants in the region.

Park

Hollywood was designed to be park-like and aside from the fact that it is a cemetery, it is very park-like.

Of course, this is still a working cemetery, so there are items left at loved one's graves --

Why are there always bugs at cemeteries? Can you see the little bugs flying around?

Pretty neat, this is the hollywood cememtary in California? Hi btw randomly found your LJ :D

This is Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, VA. Is there one in California as well?

I think so, I live nearby, but I can't say for sure. Cemetery's especially old ones are nice, I love the statues and designs, name's jose btw nice to meet you.

I like old cemeteries too. Glad you stopped by :)

I feel like I walked through the cemetary again. Thanks for the lovely trip. You take such great photos!

Glad you liked them. I hadn't been in a long time. I really like face pictures, especially when the light is hitting just one side...

Graves...

That child's grave needs a Webkinz or a Bratz doll. And here's a question. Perhaps I'm missing something in the photographs... The photo of Richard Goodall's headstone... I'm guessing he's not dead yet based on the absence of a death date. Why does he have pumpkins and flowers around his headstone? That's weird to me. Are his loved ones counting down the days until he kicks off and leaves them with a windfall of cash and assets?

I believe it was the son who has already passed -- the son's name is listed further down on the marker.

I should have cropped that picture better (so it didn't show the name). I was drawn to the pumpkin and to the lantern.
